Spring is always a great time of year. Indeed, the general stagnation and ‘do it tomorrow’ attitude of winter is replaced with a far more positive ‘let’s make it happen’ approach which can be infinitely more rewarding.

With this in mind, now is the perfect time for shop owners to enhance their retail spaces so that they can better appeal to consumers who themselves are feeling emboldened by the invigorative qualities of spring.

Of course, appealing to consumers’ styles and tastes is a far from easy task these days. Indeed, today’s shoppers are more demanding and have shorter attention spans than any generation before them so retailers need to ensure they market their brand and products very effectively. In fact, they need to make sure they not only provide items that are attractive and desirable, but also offer a shopping experience that is memorable and enjoyable.

Not easy.

But not impossible, either.

Happily, retailers can achieve all of these targets and more by investing in effective retail design.

Naturally, it is important to choose only the best retail designers and that is where we here at Barber Design come in. Our designers are amongst the best in the business and have delivered outstanding retail interior design solutions for some of the UK’s biggest names. Indeed, leading retailers like Nike, Gap, Topshop and Debenhams have all benefitted from our expert advice, as have many smaller retailers and independent vendors.

So, what are you waiting for? ‘Let’s make it happen!’

Aside from attractive apparel, the one thing which all clothing retailers need to have is appealing changing rooms. Indeed, disagreeable changing rooms can hamper profits as customers will be unlikely to return to shops whose changing rooms are impractical or unsightly. However, this vital aspect of effective retail design is something which far too many shop owners and retail managers simply don’t give enough credence to.

Quite simply, all clothing shop changing rooms must offer privacy, space and cleanliness:

Privacy
Privacy is of course the most important feature of any changing area. Indeed, any clothing retailer that cannot offer this most basic necessity will struggle to get any customers to try on their wares.

Space
Although it is good to have as many cubicles to offer as possible, it will not please customers if they are too cramped to move around in. If a customer has to literally bend over backwards to try on a pair of trousers, they will be unlikely to want to experience the same cramped cubicles again.

Cleanliness
Naturally, changing rooms need to be clean and tidy so that the customers dressing in them look and feel as good as they possibly can. Certainly, customers who are treading on sweet wrappers and old lottery tickets will hardly feel like they are looking their best.

To learn more about the vital aspects of interior retail design, explore our pages further or speak to one of our expert retail designers by calling 0207 7312001.

Pop up shops are a very 21st century retail phenomenon in. Indeed, they are a direct reflection of today’s society: immediate, exciting and fleeting.

The basic premise behind a pop up shop is that it seemingly appears out of nowhere, creates a furore, and then vanishes again as quickly as it first appeared.

Although they are temporary and typically quite small, this kind of retail space can generate a lot of consumer interest and brand exposure. This is because a pop-up retail space makes consumers feel as though they are part of something special, thereby generating a sense of immediate relevance and interaction within them.

Although pop up retail is most often associated with large clothing brands who want to make a bit of a stir with their fashionable ranges, there are plenty of other retailers who can benefit from the pop up phenomenon. Indeed, vendors who sell seasonal goods like fireworks, Halloween costumes or Christmas cards can use the pop up concept to great effect as they only need to be in business for a few weeks at certain times of the year.

We here at Barber Design are expert retail designers who know all there is to know about vending in the 21st century. Indeed, we have provided effective retail solutions for some of the UK’s leading retailers. So, regardless of whether you are looking for a pop up shop or a point of sale display, ensure you make us your first port of call.

It is often said that nothing worthwhile in life comes easily and this can be true when it comes to promoting your goods. These days, it’s necessary to be creative and original to get the attention of consumers and this is not always simple.

For example, you might be keen to make the most of pop up shops. These temporary retail outlets can be ideal as a way of getting people talking and are therefore great as a way of raising the profile of your organisation.

However, the practical realities of creating temporary stores can be tricky, particularly if you lack experience in such matters. But the good news is, you don’t have to undertake such projects alone. Instead, you can come to the experts. Here at Barber Design we are specialists in such endeavours and should be able to achieve the best results for you, regardless of the potential obstacles in your way.

Indeed, the creative flare and sheer ingenuity of our retail designers was recently showcased in the Diesel pop up at the Boxpark site in Shoreditch. The brief was not easy. The firm had three units next to each other, but they were narrow and low, meaning that the usual retail principles had to be considered at a micro level.

Thankfully, our team loves a challenge and relished the opportunity to transform this space using their retail design skills.

Despite the limitations, they developed a multi-use experiential space that allows community and customer interaction. It even features a DJ booth in one corner, meaning the space can be transformed into a ‘boxparty’/club at the required times.

These days, retailers ignore the power of the web at their peril. Firms that fail to harness the potential of this medium tend to struggle to garner sufficient interest and enthusiasm among consumers. After all, more and more people are switching on to the benefits associated with shopping over the internet. It can be more convenient and cheaper, and often it provides individuals with a broader choice.

However, while cyberspace is certainly rising in prominence, it is also key for firms to maintain an effective presence on the high street. This plays a large role in establishing and maintaining connections with the general public. People like to feel a sense of connection to the firms they buy from and in many cases this is best achieved by entering their stores.

With this in mind, it’s important that your firm takes advantage of retail design and operates an attractive and appealing website as well.

Luckily, it’s now easier than ever before to source expert help to make this easier. Here at Barber Design we have well over a decade’s experience in such matters and know the importance of both on and offline marketing and design.

Our retail designers can help you enhance the look and effectiveness of your current retail outlets, or, if you lack a physical presence, we can develop pop up shops to showcase your offerings and generate hype for your company.

Meanwhile, we can also ensure that your website looks the part and does your products or services justice.

Like many sports clubs, yours may be making increasing use of the web as a means of selling your merchandise. This can be a great way of encouraging people to buy your products and it may boost your bottom line.

However, it’s important that you don’t neglect the significance of your physical stores. Research repeatedly shows that customers will always value the experience of visiting retail outlets and having something to take home with them.

Here at Barber Design we have 13 years of experience when it comes to creating the perfect retail design and we have helped many sports clubs and brands during this time, meaning we know exactly what we are doing.

By making sure that your shops look the part and are designed to achieve optimum sales, you can boost your revenue and add to your overall success. For example, you might want to increase accessibility in your stores so that you can take full advantage of match days at your ground.

Making sure you benefit from effective retail interior design is the perfect way to strengthen your brand and to provide your customers with an immediate experience and inspiring environment to keep them coming back.

Football clubs around the UK and elsewhere around Europe are currently undergoing significant changes in order to meet the new Financial Fair Play regulations set out by the Union of European Football Associations. The organisation’s bold initiative means that, by the 2014/15 season, all clubs must balance their football-related expenditure against their incomes.

If your club is currently under pressure to boost your incomings, you might want to think carefully about retail design. Merchandise can play an important role in revenue generation and, at present, your organisation may not be making the most of it.

Here at Barber Design we have much experience of working with organisations like yours and know various tricks of the trade to help boost your finances. One of your greatest assets is the loyal base of fans you have. These people visit your venue time and again and they are often eager to spend their money on merchandise.

By concentrating on retail interior design and making sure that your shops are well laid out and attractive, you can shift more of your products. Meanwhile, by combining this with multichannel retailing and apps, you can boost your revenue even further.

Of course, the number of items you sell is somewhat constrained by the fact that consumers may only visit your outlets on match days. However, our retail designers are used to thinking outside the box and can help you come up with innovative solutions. For example, you might be able to boost sales by using technology to deliver the right size or colour of product directly to customers’ homes to try allow them to try them on.

Also, you can utilise digital displays or QR code on products in your windows that take people straight to your website.

The self titled ‘Queen of Shops’, Mary Portas, has taught us that it is not just a good product and good customer service alone which generate retail sales. Effective retail design plays an enormous role in just getting customers into your store and helping them to understand what you’re selling and why they should buy it. Having the right retail display will encourage them to stay in the shop for longer, taking the time to browse what you have for sale and then actually buying it. Plus, if they enjoyed their overall experience, they are more likely to return and buy from you again.

It is also important that the design of your store reflects the image you are trying to convey as a brand and matches your brand identity. Our team of expert retail designers will work with you to incorporate your company’s identity into their designs, showing off what you sell to its best advantage and getting those customers through the doors. You need to display your products logically and in a way that gets them seen and, ultimately, bought.

Getting the right look is partly about knowing your customers. Who are your products intended for and what does that market like and appreciate? Based on the information you supply us with, we will create a contemporary design that appeals directly to your target market, getting them coming back into your store time and time again because it’s a place they want to be and be seen.

Impulse buying is an important retail strategy which relies on customers picking things up from a particular retail display because they have suddenly decided that it is something that they need or want. Without that display in that specific location in your store, they would most likely not have bought that item. This strategy is most commonly deployed near tills and queuing areas because customers will have the time to look at what’s there.

To get the most out of a point of sale display, our team of expert designers will incorporate this into your overall retail design. Neglecting to include POS displays could mean that you are losing out on a large percentage of sales. It is not about tricking the customers into buying something that they don’t need. Many of the resulting sales will be because the customer has forgotten that they wanted or needed a certain item, or it might be that they didn’t even know that your shop sold it.

It is not just about having the right products displayed in the right areas, however, but also about the way in which they are displayed, which needs to be appealing to the customer and also easy to access and see. If a POS display runs alongside a queue, it is quite easy for it to become untidy or low on stock because staff find it hard to access the area. Our team can advise you on the best way to incorporate retail displays into the overall design of your store.

You might think that spending money on a makeover for your shop is a waste of money and time. All or part of your store may end up closed while the redesign takes place resulting in a loss of income, plus you’ll have to pay money first to retail designers and then workmen for it to be carried out.

A fresh and effective retail design will actually increase business, however, so it is worth spending some time and money on getting it right because you will get a real return on your investment. The overall appearance needs to be attractive enough to draw the customers in, while the layout can influence what they buy and stop them from leaving empty handed.

The middle of your store is the weakest area when it comes to customers buying items. Our designers can help you create and incorporate a powerful retail display to keep their attention, particularly if you have a small store where space needs to be used to its maximum potential.

Another trick to get customers to buy more is to make sure that they can see everything clearly without having to make much effort to locate it. One way of doing this is to display things on racks and shelves at angles so that more merchandise is exposed to customers. This will give you less space for displaying, however, so it is something that you can discuss with our team of designers to see what is best for your store, as no two stores are the same.
